Metcal solder station and an extremely fine tip. Even a ham-fisted mechanical engineer like me can solder surface mount components with that rig.

Yeah , it was a pretty easy solder task; these are much larger than SMD pads. But I haven’t found a tip that I really like yet . The really fine pointy tips don’t transfer heat well, and the flat-top tip I have is a little too big for fine-pitch SMD leads.
